The other issue could very well be your controller.
Make sure that your backup drive is on its on controller card, btw.
(I cleared the event log a while back when troubleshooting the failing system board.) Below are the details of the messsage: Event Type: Warning Event Source: sonysdx-VRTS Event Category: None Event ID: 54 Date: 10/11/2006 Time: PM User: N/A Computer: AGENASQL Description: An Io Request to the device \Device\Tape0 did not complete or canceled within the specific timeout. Thanks when you look under Device Manager, SCSI/ Raid or Tape, do you have an Exclamation Mark ? But anyway, it looks like the tape is missing an Acknowledgement from the Backup Software to cancel the I/O data .
This can occur if the device driver does not set a cancel routine for a given IO request packet. 0008: 00 00 00 00 36 00 04 80 ....6.. 0010: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........ In this case, try to Remove the Sony Driver and reinstall . I do not have any exclamation points under those categories.
I have all of the backup logs EXCEPT for the ones when the backup freezes the server. If it started the backup and then froze, shouldn't I atleast have the backup log that shows the progress up until that point? I simply have to wait a few days to see if this works. This is what I'm doing to test further: The nightly backup job runs Mon-Fri @ PM and backs everything up to a file and take about an hour to run. Since I have been able to back this file up to tape without problems, I have scheduled ANOTHER backup job that runs at AM that backs up this backup to tape. If I should do something differently please tell me.This is not at all a permanent solution, but if it runs for a week or so I am pretty sure (maybe??? Is there any chance that you have automatic updates or WSUS updates pushing to the server duiring the backup period? If I cancel it the status changes to "cancel pending" but it never disappears from the list. The only way I can get it to go is to reboot the server.
